Grids, The Rule of Thirds, and Rethinking Slide... →
Presentation Zen by Garr Reynolds I received my contributor copy of Garr Reynolds’s Presentation Zen book last week and proceeded to devour it over the weekend. A fuller review is coming to this space soon, because this is the book about presentations that’s needed to be written for years, and it’s just fantastic. Best of all it’s not another recipe book about “how to make slides” —...
Just What is this ASUS Eee Thing Anyway? →
davidmwilliams writes “ASUS have released a cheap subnotebook. It is far from state-of-the-art tech-wise, with 512Mb RAM and a Celeron processor. It has a 4Gb hard drive and no optical drive. Its screen is 7” and runs at the odd resolution of 800x480 and the operating system looks like something Fisher Price might have designed. Why would you buy it? What on earth can you do with...

Netscape Navigator dies with a whimper →
Hey, remember Netscape Navigator?
If you were born after 1988 or so, odds are you don’t. Navigator was the first real web browser for the masses, and gave Microsoft’s Internet Explorer the closest thing to a run for its money any browser was able to in the mid 90’s. All Macs shipped with Netscape Navigator as the default web browser until the infamous 1997 deal between Apple and Microsoft which...

I just found a video blogger here in Kuwait. It a girl, her name is Rashisha and she has tons of videos on YouTube ranging from her singing karaoke with her brother to videos of her taken while she is driving complaining about work. She also has a blog which I added to “Our Friends” […]

Nokia E51 →
The Nokia E51 is an enterprise-oriented variant of the 6120, with the same keypad layout as the E65:
Good Points (mostly like the 6210):
Includes the Exchange ActiveSync client in ROM (took me 2 minutes to switch phones, a new record)
Very fast, great browser, screen, battery life (like the 6120)
Metal casing
Standard mini-USB connector
The usual browser
HSDPA and Wi-Fi support (although...
Why, I just shake the buildings out of my sleeves.... →
After a fairly hectic ten days, I’ve really enjoyed the chance to sit back and relax. I can’t even remember the last time I ate out so much I preferred home-cooked food. Yesterday, though, I drove to Abu Dhabi to meet up with friends there. Even as someone who tries to pay attention to new projects, I was stunned by the sight of things that had come up or were being built along the...

How to rent an apartment in Tokyo →
What exactly is involved in renting a real apartment in Tokyo? For starters, Japanese use the phrase hikoshi-bimbo to describe someone who recently moved into a new apartment. Literally translating as ‘moving poor,’ hikoshi-bimbo describes the state of having to fork over six months’ salary for the privelege of renting a new apartment.
Review: Elgato Turbo.264 →
Those involved in any kind of video work will be able to relate to the grueling chore of long encoding sessions, especially if you’re not on an exceptionally quick Intel based machine. Video encoding takes time, hogs your machines resources, and is a long and tentative task.
I’m lucky enough to own a powerful dual-core MacBook Pro now which makes encoding videos for my show an easy process....

How should Apple sell against Vista? →
Vista would seem to be an easy target for Apple. There are challenges. Whenever you are trying to convince someone to give up a world they have been part of for years, you walk a fine line. You do not want to insult their intelligence. What you would like to get from them is a moment where they say themselves, “Why do I put up with that or why would I put up with that?” In thinking...

Adobe Spying On Its Customers →
It’s not all that surprising these days to hear about software companies having their software “phone home” in some manner or another, though it’s often quite annoying. Personal attention drives Apple Store success →
My Macbook Pro has had multiple battery problems this year. It’s been a bummer but the genius bar at the SoHo store has helped immensely. I scheduled my appointments in advance using the online reservation system, received help from friendly staffers, and was given two brand new batteries at no charge. I was annoyed by the problems, but the level of support definitely helped turn a negative...
Worst. iPhone Knockoff. Ever. →
There are bad knock off of the iPhone - and there are REALLY bad iPhone knocks…and this one is the worst one I’ve ever seen. This poor phone started off its life as a Sony Ericsson Walkman W52S slider. One dedicated Apple fanboy later, and BOOM - it’s an iPhone Frankenstein that shouldn’t exist - but does.

Over on Twitter, he seems to be back in a debate that seems to come up whenever we people centered on social media have a slow...
Top 10 Ways to Market Your Blog in 2008 →

Psst. Perian is about to enter a private beta for version 1.1. If you recall, last time Perian went into beta mode the software leaked. This time, they’re reacting by limiting the beta list to users...
